Introducing Sony’s Connected Blu-ray Players and Home Theater Systems For 2011

Sony has introduced a new range of Blu-ray players and Blu-ray Disc Home theater systems for 2011. There are four standalone Blu-ray Disc players (BDP-S780, BDP-S580, BDP-S480, and BDP-S380) and three home theater systems (BDV-E780W, BDV-E580, and BDV-E280). Both ranges of systems are designed with the latest connected solution to allow access to the latest in online entertainment and in home connectivity. They have also introduced a 5.1 channel audio system to complement the Blu-ray player and home theater system.

This new range is an upgrade to the BDV-HZ970W and BDP-SXXX series. All models come with the BRAVIA Internet Video platform plus access to over 40 free movies, music and videos, from Sony's Video on Demand and Qriocty Music services. Other entertainment solutions partners include Amazon Video on Demand, YouTube, Netflix, Pandora, HuluPlus, Slacker® Internet Radio, Crackle and Blip.tv.

Blu-ray Disc Home Theater Systems
This new 2011 range (BDV-E780W, BDV-E580, and BDV-E280) of Blu-ray Disc home theater systems were on show at this years CES in Las Vegas and will start coming out the first quarter of this year.  All three models are 3D ready and offer BD-LIVE access.

The flagship model the BDV-E780W comes with a few extras (due in the second quarter). It features a built-in 802.11n Wi-Fi adapter, full HD 1080p 5.1 channel 1000 watt sound, wireless rear speakers, 2-way front speakers and an improved subwoofer.

It can act as a DLNA client, which means you access files on other DLNA compatible devices on you home LAN. There is a front USB port for external disk or other storage devices and two HDMI imputes. It is compatible with Sony's new HomeShare Wi-Fi Network Speakers and includes Sony's Entertainment Database Browser with Gracenote technology.

It comes with a universal remote and can be manage via Sony’s “Media Remote” control app for iPhone, iPod touch and Android devices, which shows a Blu-ray Disc's details such as jacket artwork, actor, and production information as well as search for additional video clips online.. It also comes with an iPhone/iPod dock.

Blu-ray Disc Players
As the high end model for the Blu-ray Disc Players the BDP-S780 share some similar features to the BDV-E780W Blu-ray Disc home theater system. It can act as a Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) client, built in Wi-Fi wireless (802.11n) with Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) as well as an Ethernet port for easy access to BRAVIA Internet Video and BD-LIVE; iPhone, iPod touch, or Android mobile control with Sony “Media Remote”.

It has built-in Skype to offer widescreen Skype-to-Skype video calls and has the ability to up convert 2D content to simulate 3D and improves standard definition and web video quality with Sony's IP Content Noise Reduction technology and Precision Cinema HD Upscaling technologies.

Also coming this year is Sony’s first portable Blu-ray Disc player, which plays back both Blu-ray and DVD discs, as well as USB media. Along with the HT-SS380, a 5.1 channel 1000 watt home theater audio system with Blu-ray Disc player.
