Verizon Joins Z-Wave Alliance
Verizon has solidified its commitment in the home automation and monitoring market by joining the Z-Wave Alliance. They will now play a bigger role in promoting the Z-Wave technology and have a direct say in its direction. Verizon has also indicated their interest in making their set-top box solution wireless; therefore, joining the Z-Wave Alliance is one step in that direction.
It is believed that the user of Z-Wave technology in the recently launched Verizon Home Monitoring and Control solution last October is the key reason behind them joining. Verizon joins a list of other industry leaders in the Alliance, such as Sigma Designs, Danfoss, Evolve Guest Controls, Fakro, 2Gig Technologies, Ingersoll Rand, and Jasco Products.
Verizon anticipates that the connected home market will continue to grow in 2012. They are also in the process of launching the Verizon Home Media Server which they hope to be completely wireless over time.
