AT&T initially indicated that they were planning to enter the home monitoring and automation market, has made it official. They will be unveiling it at this year’s GSMA Connected House Congress in Barcelona. The new home monitoring platform for service providers – is called “AT&T Digital Life”. The IP web based solution will give service providers the capabilities to offer their customers customizable, web-based home automation, energy and security services.

Unlike Verizon, Rogers cable and Swisscom which sell direct to consumer, AT&T is taking the other route of allowing service providers to develop their own brand by selling the service as their own. Digital Life features licensed software development kits and other services like hardware certification, application hosting, and technical and integration support.

“The platform is flexible, intuitive and scalable, providing service providers with a path into a market of significant growth opportunity.  With Digital Life, service providers will have the ability to arm their subscribers with technology to stay connected to what matters most to them in a simple, convenient, secure, and customizable way,” said Kevin Petersen, senior vice president, Digital Life, AT&T Mobility.

The Digital Life platform according to AT&T, is a complete end-to-end solution that will allow providers to offer their customers devices, like wireless sensors and cameras.  It features a control center that will receive feeds and alerts from cameras and sensors and stream this information via a web based user interface.

AT&T will be demonstrating the Digital Life platform at the GSMA Connected House at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain from February 27 through March 1.
