BPL Global, a smart grid technology company has announced the release of Version 3.5 of its Connected Energy (CNRG) smart grid solution suite for advanced distribution automation of the electrical network. The suite enables integrated management of smart grid solutions from substations through customer premises. Based on a common architecture, a broad range of smart grid solutions designed for the distribution grid can collaborate. Cross collaboration of smart grid solutions automates decisions and responses in the grid to enhance reliability and efficiency and delivers the promise of the smart grid.

This approach enables BPLG's solutions to bridge "islands of intelligence" created by the independent deployment of specific smart grid solutions such as advanced metering, demand management, and/or substation automation. The result is improved ROI for each of the smart grid solutions through leveraged infrastructure, shared information and integrated management.

"The Connected Energy smart grid solution suite enables utilities to plan and execute their long term smart grid roadmaps on a unified system architecture," said Pete Londa, CEO of BPL Global. "Utilities can sequence deployment of solutions to maximize their investments in smart grid technologies from substations through customer premises such as renewable energy, smart meters, load management, energy storage, asset monitoring and substation automation."

Our Connected Energy solution is the integration layer enabling seamless collaboration of our substation and distribution solutions as well as any smart grid application deployed by a utility. For the distribution grid, the Load Management solution provides direct load control with unique monitoring, measurement and verification capability, ideal for peak load reduction, load shifting and ancillary services. Our DER Management solution enables collaborative management of distributed energy resources including customer load, energy storage, distributed generation and renewables. The Grid Management solution provides monitoring of power quality throughout the distribution grid. In the substation, BPLG offers the market leading family of Serveron On-line Transformer Monitors and next generation Substation Automation technology.

Each CNRG solution is comprised of software, communications, smart devices and managed services for a vertically integrated solution. Horizontal integration across solutions is also achieved as a result of the Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) that enables all applications to share critical data, services and a common user interface across the system. It is built to support the industry's evolving interoperability and security standards. This flexibility is accomplished through open system architecture with no proprietary interfaces. Utilities can initially deploy an individual solution or select the combination that addresses their highest priorities. Sequencing of deployment is designed for alignment with a utility's smart grid strategy and roadmap.
