The Lantiq GRX350 processor can manage multiple Gigabits of incoming data streams from interfaces, like G.fast, GPON, Gigabit Ethernet WAN, VDSL2 or hybrid access network approaches such as DSLTE (DSL + LTE)

The MIPS based GRX350 network processor integrates carrier grade edge router features into its advanced home gateway architecture, which includes multiple CPUs, Gigabit switch with integrated GPHYs, 3x3 Wi-Fi, Voice and DECT telephony. Following Lantiq’s AnyWAN concept, the chipset effortlessly handles any kind of wide-area-network (WAN) connectivity including the new G.fast standard.

In a first for home gateway network processors, Lantiq applies TrueQoS with hardware acceleration to all downstream and upstream data traffic, using full packet classification and bandwidth protection to assure the best possible customer experience.

Its virtualization isolates concurrent applications so that networking functionality executes separately, allowing developers to shortened test time and time to market of new applications.

“The new Lantiq GRX350 Network Processor opens the door to previously unavailable levels of service quality in broadband home networking. With Lantiq TrueQoS, customers get the service they want at the quality they want", said Rainer Spielberg, Lantiq's VP and Head of the Residential Gateway Solutions Business Line.

Another benefit of the GRX350 processor is it’s "the most secure gateways ever available for home networks", with a dedicated security core.

"We believe these unique features will be the heart of the true digital home”, said Spielberg.

Tag:

Lantiq

home gateway

processors

topics:

networking

Lantiq Offers Better Broadband Experience With DSLTE

More and more services are moving online, which before would come to us physically or we would go where it is. This increase in digital services has put a lot of pressure on broadband service providers to offer better internet speed to download and upload data. It does not matter where we live we want the same quality of service. The challenge some of these service providers face is it is not feasible possible to have the same quality service in every area they serve. This is where VDSL and LTE come in useful, both increasing internet speed for wired and wireless internet users.

VDSL (Very-high-bit-rate Digital Subscriber Line) and LTE (Long Term Evolution), also known as 4G LTE, have been around for some time but have always been considered as two separate services for different customers; base on need and demographics. LTE has been mainly given to those who are living too far from the provider’s exchange to benefit from DSL or for mobile devices.

For those who are fortunate enough to have access to both Lantiq have developed a reference design that combines VDSL and LTE into one device. Now device manufacturers can develop gateway devices that take advantage of both technologies, allowing service providers to offer their customers faster broadband internet access.

The reference design combines Lantiq’s AnyWay and XWAY chips into what they called their DSLTE architecture. By leveraging their existing DSL and LTE network service providers and offer a combine speed of up to 300 Mbps. Today’s standard xDSL broadband can only give you the best quality within a distance of 500M from the exchange and deteriorate the further away you are from the exchange. Therefore, some customer will enjoy better quality data rate, VOIP call and movie streaming than others. With the combination of VDSL and LTE customers further will experience a better quality of service.

“As more operators look for solutions to offer higher speeds to their DSL customers, adding a LTE WAN interface to the DSL gateway is a smart way to reach this goal with a minimum investment for the operator. Besides enabling higher WAN speed by aggregating traffic through this dual WAN interface, DSLTE also provides solid network connectivity by enabling seamless failover from one WAN to the other WAN interface, when one of them becomes interoperable,” Commenting on the new Lantiq solution, Michael Clegg GM&VP Service Provider at Netgear.

Since the release of the DSLTE, Lantiq partner Netgem, has created a home gateway base on the technology. By combining the Netgem’s Quattour LTE mobile hotspot and their award-winning software with Lantiq’s they have created the HYBRIAGE. The HYBRIDGE acts as a media server to other connected devices in the home.

The HYBRIDGE support for DSL and LTE allows it to offer both in parallel offering up to 200Mbps download speed and 100Mbps upload. This enables service providers to offer better quality of service over longer distances; services such as HD video streaming becomes easier offering better end users entertainment.

According Netgem, the HYBRIDGE links service operators with other screen in the home. If they have a cloud service the HYBRIDGE can act as the gateway to these services allowing content to be easily synchronized between our home devices and with the operator’s applications and services.

Tag:

wireless

broadband

mobile broadband

Lantiq

LTE

topics:

networking

Broadband Forum and UNH-IOL Issue First Set of BBF-069 Certificates

The Broadband Forum and the University of New Hampshire-InterOperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL) have issueed their first set of BBF-069 Certificates to Broadcom, Cisco, D-Link, Huawei and Lantiq. The certificate signifies that the device is TR-069 protocol compliant, which means it can be remotely manage. With TR-069 devices service providers have a easier job of managing remote base devices, removing the need to send out service engineers for common faults.

Currently UNH-IOL is the official laboratory accredited by the Broadband Forum to issue TR-069 CPEs (customer premise equipment) certificate to manufacturers. Interested manufacturers can apply for certification through the recently launched ‘Home Networking Consortium’.

With broadband subscriptions now over 624 million worldwide according to analyst firm Point Topic and according to Ovum more than 147 million devices are manage by TR-069. Just this month Time Warner Cable selected Motorola device management platform, ‘Motorola EDGE Manager’ to manage their subscribers’ devices.

The Broadband Forum believes that BBF-069 Certification sends a clear and simple message to the industry confirming that CPE vendors meet operator and service provider requirements. Certification has substantial advantages for all participants in the value chain, offering service providers an enhanced level of confidence that certified CPE devices will interoperate better with their remote management Auto-Configuration Servers.

"Device conformance is critical in enabling interoperability and provides the key to expediting the exciting growth and potential of connected home services around the world," said Robin Mersh, CEO of the Broadband Forum. It also helps equipment and system vendors reduce testing overheads, and enables them to easily market their products - increasing their ability to address a much larger market overall.

source: broadband forum

Tag:

broadband

cisco

Lantiq

TR-069

topics:

networking

Dirk Wieberneit Heads Lantiq’s Customer Premises Equipment Unit

Dirk Wieberneit has joined Lantiq as the new Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) Business Unit.
