Launching and driving mass adoption of Home Security and Monitoring, Energy Management and Home Control will be high up the agenda at the exclusive industry leaders summit, Connected Home Americas 2011, taking place October 18-19th at the Marriott Marquis Atlanta hotel. Also planned are in-depth discussions into the future of entertainment in the home, with topics such as multiscreen video, interactive and social TV, and TV Everywhere expected to be under the microscope.

Gitex, One of the leading Technology conferences in the Middle East, kicks off this week in Dubai. Trident Microsystems, today unveils the world's first integrated 240 Hz digital TV SoC (System-on-Chip) for Android-Based smart televisions. The chip is due for commercial release in the first quarter of 2012, will help digital televisions to offer a more immersive entertainment experience. The new solution comes with an HDMI 1.4a receiver and high speed ADCs to support up to 1080p digital and analog video inputs integrated.

On May 24 the connected home global summit returns to London.  This year’s summit like last year will feature a host of industry key players from all area of the connected home sector.  There will be presenters from BT, TiVo, Whirlpool, Google and many more; they will be looking at the 'technology choices and business models that will monetise the connected home'.  Service providers and operators should attend to gain insight into how this growing market sector can be adopted to create new revenue streams.  Users will learn how the devices and media services they buy are changing.

Entropic Communications has appointed Tom Luan as Vice President and General Manager of it China operation.  According to Entropic Mr Luan will oversee the development and implementation of business strategies for all Entropic product lines in China.  Prior to joining Entropic Mr Luan held senior position similar business, like NEC Electronics, Infineon and more.

When some of us in the West can brag about having 50M broadband and can only talk about 100M, South Korea is planning to give its citizen broadband speed some of us can only dream of.   According to the New York Times South Korea is moving it broadband speed up another level to one gigabit per second.  The country is piloting the project at the moment and hope to have it completely rolled out by the end of 2012.
