Entropic Communications a leading provider of silicon solutions to enable connected home entertainment, announced today that it is working with Texas Instruments (TI) to create multiple DOCSIS(r) 3.0 embedded media terminal adapter (eMTA) and gateway development platforms optimized for triple-play and next-generation IP services that utilize MoCA(r) 1.1 for the home network.

The development platforms will enable OEMs and MSOs to easily and quickly bring MoCA-enabled DOCSIS 3.0 solutions to market in order to provide a robust, whole home entertainment network for HD video content and other multimedia entertainment.

Entropic, the market leader in MoCA technology, is the only semiconductor manufacturer with a MoCA 1.1 certified solution. TI leads the market in delivering DOCSIS solutions and was the first to obtain DOCSIS 3.0 certification. The Entropic/TI collaboration brings together the latest generation silicon solutions from both companies - the EN2510 single-chip MoCA 1.1 SoC from Entropic manufactured in 65 nm process technology and TI's Puma 5 DOCSIS 3.0 cable chipsets with multimedia processing and scalable multichannel support - to produce cost effective and scalable eMTA and gateway reference designs. The reference design will be demonstrated this week at the NCTA Cable Show. General availability of the joint reference designs will be during the second half of 2009.
"We are very pleased to align our engineering efforts with a technology leader like TI," stated Patrick Henry, CEO of Entropic Communications. "The joint platform will combine the latest and most scalable technologies together to provide OEMs a solution for bringing DOCSIS 3.0 with MoCA products quickly to market. We believe our collaboration with TI will accelerate the deployment of DOCSIS 3.0 MoCA 1.1 enabled services."

Optimized and Extensible DOCSIS 3.0 Solutions
As MSOs roll out services that take advantage of the high bandwidth provided by DOCSIS 3.0 and a MoCA LAN, they need solutions that address the management of both the WAN and the LAN. The Entropic reference design with TI will be optimized to provide best-in-class value and performance with support for advanced features such as OpenCable's Home Network Reserved Services Domain (RSD) protocol to ensure quality-of-service and MoCA simple network management protocol (SNMP), critical MoCA features that MSOs demand.

Entropic and TI are aligning silicon and software roadmaps to ensure that the platforms will be extensible to future DOCSIS offerings from TI and MoCA solutions from Entropic. These designs will enable OEMs to leverage the development investment made on today's EN2510 and Puma 5 based products toward future MoCA enabled DOCSIS 3.0 eMTA and gateway solutions. By working in concert with each other, Entropic and TI can offer MSOs assurance that the Entropic and TI collaboration will continue to produce best-in-class value for all of their DOCSIS 3.0 needs.
"Working closely with Entropic to align our roadmaps will ensure that cable manufacturers can take advantage of the highest system performance while reducing costs for DOCSIS 3.0 solutions requiring MoCA technology," said Ran Senderovitz, business manager for TI's digital connected home business. "We believe the new generation of MoCA-enabled DOCSIS 3.0 solutions from Entropic and TI will provide MSOs with a unique platform to accelerate deployment of exciting new multimedia home networking services."

Live Demonstration at the 2009 NCTA Cable Show

Entropic will be demonstrating its EN2510 single-chip MoCA 1.1 solution working in conjunction with TI's Puma 5 DOCSIS 3.0 eMTA/gateway reference designs at the 2009 NCTA Cable Show in Washington, D.C. (April 1st - 3rd). Visit Entropic Communications at booth #2310, Hall B.
