Intel, Entropic and SMC Networks Collaborate on a new MoCA 2.0 Gateway with DOCSIS 3.0

Intel, Entropic and SMC Networks announced plans to collaborate on a new generation of DOCSIS 3.0 data gateway with MoCA 2.0 for service providers.  The partnership between the three businesses will leverage the power of Intel’s Puma 5 family of DOCSIS 3.0 cable modems, SMC’s expertise in producing advanced DOCSIS data gateways and Entropic’s complete MoCA 2.0 silicon and software solution.

By combining the unparalleled performance of MoCA 2.0 with Intel’s DOCSIS 3.0 Gateway Linux-based System-on-a-Chip (SoC) and SMC’s market leading DOCSIS 3.0 gateway, service providers can deploy a future-proof, robust, cost-effective, highly-reliable solution that delivers high-delivery, advanced service and new applications throughout the home-without the worry of bandwidth constraints.

“Through this collaboration, Intel aims to be able to advance service providers’ home networking backbones, enabling them to deliver greater accessibility and connectivity and advanced services and applications over the existing home coaxial cable,” said Bob Ferreira of the Intel Digital Home Group.

Visitors to this CableLabs Summer 2011 will get the see the first unveiling of MoCA 2.0 silicon with DOCSIS gateways. Entropic will be demonstrating the platform with the other partners.

“By collaborating with Intel and SMC Networks, we are accelerating the speed at which service providers can deploy MoCA2.0 solution to their subscribers,” said Vinay Gokhale, of Entropics.  “Our alignment enables a ‘no constraint’ network that best meets the growing demand for whole-home entertainment services; from multi-room DVR and Wi-Fi extension to online gaming and PC-to-TV content sharing.
