Philips Exits TV Market To Focus on Smart Lighting and Health

Dutch tech firm, Philips electronics has been scaling back and refocusing some of its home solutions, over recent years. The latest is its TV operations, which they own in partnership with TPV Technologies.  Philips announced this week that they have sold their 30 per cent share in TP Vision to majority owner TPV Technologies, to focus on their smart lighting and connected health market.

Marvell Offers ZigBee (RF4CE) Remote Control Platform

The new remote control reference design platform is base on the ZigBee RF4CE standard.  The solution offers a rich remote control experience that includes voice search and gesture recognition, internet-based multimedia search and discovery capabilities, support for the latest in cloud gaming and more.

The remote platform joins other Marvell smart home, set-top box and smart TV solutions such as their award-winning ARMADA 1500 series SoC (System-on-Chip).

I must say hearing that Google has bought Nest comes as no surprise to me, what surprise me is the fact that they are buying so many home related solutions and then we hear nothing after.  We waited with  bated breath when they buy these businesses and introduce new concepts and are left high and dry, because we see no change to the norm.

Entropic Adds CryptoFirewall To Set-top Box Chip

Entropic collaborated with Cryptography Research to port their CryptoFirewall security core technology into Entropic’s advanced line of multimedia set-top box (STB) system-on-a-chip (SoC) products.  The new chipset will protect against protect against signal theft and content piracy which is a major issue for content creators and broadcasters.

2013 has been another exciting year for the connected home we have seen many changes and developments. I would say this year was the year for new comers (mainly start-ups), introducing solutions to the market.  Service providers have done a lot to expand their services to the home thus creating new revenue streams. BORG To Invest $45M In India's Energy Sector
