Broadcom Adds 3DiJoy Motion Sensing Support To Set Top Box Chipset

Just imagine accessing your favourite online games site via your set-top box and choosing the game you want to play and start playing it instantly, using the same motions has you would with a Wii or Microsoft Kinetic game console.  Well, the technology has arrive and soon service providers will be supplying these set-top boxes (STB) that have motion sensing technology to allow us to play games using only gestures.

Broadcom Completes First Mediaroom Client Set-top Box Integration

Broadcom has changed the way Microsoft mediaroom clients connect to each other, with the release of its Broadcom BCM4717V system-on-a-chip (SoC) solution. Previously, users with multiple set-top box would connect them together via wire network using MoCA, Ethernet or HPNA and connect to the TV.  The BCM4717 changes this and allow you to connect wirelessly throughout the home.

Cavium and DSP Collaborated on Digital Home Solutions

Cavium Networks and DSP Group have collaborated to develop a new reference design with integrated Digital Enhance Cordless Telecommunication (DECT) capabilities and VoIP functionality.  The multi-service gateway, market-ready reference design is designed to enable manufacturers of digital home network equipment to bring to market gateway solutions with voice communications features such as high definition voice, address book synchronization and PBX functionality.

Pace and ES3 Developed Mediaroom Set-top Box Solutions

ES3 and Pace have collaborated to develop a series of applications for the Microsoft Mediaroom platform.  The solution leverages the power of the Pace residential gateway  and set-top box , providing simplified access to manage devices in the home network, manage settings on the RG and provide methods for self-help in troubleshooting issues in the home network, all through a user-friendly interactive experience on the TV.
 

Broadcom to Launch 11 Connected Home SetTop Box Solutions at CES 2011

Broadcom has announced that they will launch eleven new set-top box system-on-a-chip (SoC) solutions at this year’s CE Show in Las Vegas. According to the company these set-top box chipsets are designed specifically for the connected home and features integrated NDS VideoGuard Security Kernel that provide secure digital content delivery for next generation connected home devices.

Trident to Showcase Latest Internet Connected TV and Set-Top Box Solutions at CES 2011

WyPlay Partnered with Altech Multimedia

Connected Home Predictions for CES 2011

CES 2011 is building up to be a very exciting show and one not to miss. From what I have seen this year, I think there are some very exciting technologies in the pipeline, especially for the connected home. The connected home has been added as a new area within the show for the first time next year. This is where I think there will be a lot of new solutions.

Sigma Designs' SMP8652 Powers Verismo's Broadband TV Set Top Box

Verismo Networks has selected Sigma Designs’ System-on-Chip (SoC) solution to power its Broadband TV set-top box (STB). The Sigma Designs chip - SMP8652 Secure Media Processor, is a single-chip SoC solution that offers support for some of the latest STB technologies.  It has an on chip support for USB 2.0, SATA, Gigabit Ethernet and an advance decoder engine to power high definition videos. The Sigma SMP8652 media processor will give Verismo’s customers the necessary functions to help them migrate to the IP connected home.

Broadcom Announces First SoC 40nm HD 3DTV, Set-top Box Video Gateway Solution

Broadcom is offering OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) and reference design developers of connected home devices a new System-on-Chip (SoC) solution that offers superior speed and better integration. The new chip is called the BCM7422, and is the industry’s first SoC to combine a 1.3GHz multi-threaded MIPS with the latest MPEG industry standard scalable video coding (SVC) that allows STBs (set-top box) to offer 1080p high definition 3DTV.
