Qualcomm debuts Shifta, a media shifting service at CES 2011, one of the technologies we highlight would be debuting there. The Skifta service gives users the ability to control and play their music, photos and videos on connected devices at home, at a friend's house, at work or on any WiFi network without syncing or side loading media to the phone. It is also certified to stream digital content to DLNA certified devices.

Shifta is compatible with any Android 2.2 smart phone, by piggy backing on an existing wireless connection you can access and steam your files from your phone, internet or home. If these files are multimedia files (music, videos and photos) then you can stream them to your television, PC or any to any DLNA Certified player connected to a WiFi network.  Shifta, shifting services is available as a custom add-on for the NETGEAR ReadyNAS Ultra range of NAS drives.

With Shifta, you can download content from shifta cloud media services partners like Soma.fm, Revision 3, Facebook, Picasa, Radiofeeds UK, and Podcasts & More. For files that are at home and too far to go back to, Skifta also gives you global access to media stored on your home PC, media server or network-attached storage drive via any WiFi network.

"Skifta combines the mobility and WiFi connectivity of the smartphone to create a personal global remote for music, videos and photos without having to worry about where they are stored.  It lets users enjoy their favorite content on connected consumer electronics and in a rich audio and visual environment," said Ed Smith, director of product management at Qualcomm Services Labs.
