New Association Launched for Smart Grid and Demand Response Professionals

The Demand Response Coordinating Committee (DRCC) announced today that it is changing its membership structure in accordance with the services it will now provide as a professional membership society.  Reflecting this new focus, the DRCC has changed its name to the Association for Demand Response & Smart Grid (ADS).

South Korea Up Broadband Speed to One Gigabit

When some of us in the West can brag about having 50M broadband and can only talk about 100M, South Korea is planning to give its citizen broadband speed some of us can only dream of.   According to the New York Times South Korea is moving it broadband speed up another level to one gigabit per second.  The country is piloting the project at the moment and hope to have it completely rolled out by the end of 2012.

IBM Offers Smart Meter Monitoring Software

IBM has rolled out a new range of monitoring and analytic software that will help core infrastructure providers manage their systems.  The applications, according to IBM aim to advance smarter cities and industry transformation across water, energy, transportation and healthcare.  Connected to a network of sensors, 4G wireless networks, RFID tags, smart grid network, real-time information can be collected to understand system status and the ability to monitor and analyse new streams of data.

NRGi Denmark Selected Echelon for Smart Grid Project

Echelon in collaboration with Eltel has won a $16 Million smart grid solutions contract with Demark’s largest utility company NRGi. According to Echelon NRGi has selected their Networked Energy Services (NES) smart grid control system for its customers throughout its services territory. The solution features Echelon’s award winning software, which provides monitoring, application control and sensing for low voltage grid and smart meters. It is expected to serve approximately 150,000 NRGi homes and business customers.
