Just imagine accessing your favourite online games site via your set-top box and choosing the game you want to play and start playing it instantly, using the same motions has you would with a Wii or Microsoft Kinetic game console.  Well, the technology has arrive and soon service providers will be supplying these set-top boxes (STB) that have motion sensing technology to allow us to play games using only gestures.

Tesco Buys Video On Demand Startup Blinkbox

Tesco has announced plans to move into the video-on-demand market with the acquisition of Blinkbox, a video-on-demand start-up.  They now have an 80 per cent share in the company which they bought from private equity firms Eden Ventures and Nordic Venture Partners.  Blinkbox movie-streaming service has been in operation since 2008. So far the firm has grown its movie catalogue to over 9,000 Hollywood titles plus a host of television series.

Connected Home Audio Devices and Internet Radio Market to Exceed $1B

According the Strategy Analytics, the connected home market will see a turnover of more than $1 billion this year.  The report titled, “Internet Radio and Connected Home Audio Devices (CHAD): Connecting Homes with Music,” found that a total of 3.3 million connected in-home audio devices were sold last year an increase of 57 per cent on previous year.  The report also found that the user demographics of current CHAD owners are skewed toward young and male user groups.

Thing seems to be Atheros today launches the industry’s first HomePlug Green PHY solutions development kit.  The M2M (machine-to-machine) communication development kit consists of a hardware platform based on existing HomePlug AV silicon.

Fujitsu Launched Fibre to the Home Project For Rural Britain

Britain's rural internet access is changing as Fujitsu unveiled plans to build a superfast fibre optic, Fibre to the Home (FTTH) broadband network for approximately 5 millions homes in rural Britain. According to Fujitsu, they have partnered with Cisco, the network solutions provider, Virgin Media and Talk Talk two of the UKs broadband retailers, to provide residents with the service.
