LG Releases First Smart Grid-Ready Refrigerator (DIOS)

LG has finally release one of its smart grid aware appliance from the LG THING range. The DIOS as it is called was debuted at this year’s CE Show in Las Vegas. For homes that are connected to the grid the grid-ready refrigerator will connect to the web to get software update. Other features include: Its ability to keep track of daily schedules and dispenses regular weather reports, and instead of having to jot notes on sticky memos, family members can turn the fridge’s LCD screen into a note pad to leave messages for each another. Other smart appliances left to release are ovens, washing machines and microwave. According to LG the refrigerator will conserve energy during peak hours; if the door is left open for long it will alert the user.  The appliances will also allow you to communicate with them via a Tablet, PC or smartphone to check content.

Elster Appointments Geraldo Guimaraes Jr. to lead Elster Latin America

Elster has announced the appointment of Geraldo Guimaraes Jr. to lead Elster Integrated Solutions (EIS) Latin America. A native of Brazil, Mr. Guimaraes joins Elster from Silver Spring Networks, where he was the director of business development for Brazil. Prior to joining Silver Spring Networks, he served as executive director of Latin America for BPL Global, a Smart Grid technology company. He started his career at CELPA S/A, a power utility from the REDE ENERGIA group, where he worked for 17 years in several positions, including director of technology.

Kansas City Selects Elster's EnergyAxis Smart Grid Solution

Kansas City Board of Public Utilities (KCBPU), a publicly owned provider of electricity and water services to residences and businesses across the Kansas City, Kansas area, will implement Elster's EnergyAxis Smart Grid solution to streamline business and operational processes and provide cost-effective services to its customer base.

Enexis Pilots Smart Home Appliances in Breda Housing Project

The pilot is initiated by grid operator Enexis, in cooperation with power company Greenchoice and development corporation HEJA. Using special devices, residents of two neighbourhoods in Breda are able to select the most favourable time for using energy, which can be the cheapest or the most sustainable. A special website informs them about this. The test lasts for 2 years and will show if people are prepared to use these options or not.

Mobinex and State Grid FibrLINK to Create Digital Home Platform

State Grid FibrLINK has entered into a strategic agreement with Mobinex, a Human Expression Analysis and Rendering Technology (H.E.A.R.T) supplier, to extend its TeliDH platform. State Grid FibrLINK will combine its TeliDH Digital Home products with Mobinex's H.E.A.R.T to develop and operate a digital home platform in China.
