TalkTalk Selects Alcatel-Lucent to Build CDN For YouView

UK broadband operator TalkTalk has signed a three-year agreement with Alcatel-Lucent to build a Content Delivery Network (CDN) which will enable TalkTalk to deliver high-quality digital TV to end-users. The CDN network will run over TalkTalk's existing high-speed IP network, and will leverage the digital media delivery technology acquired through Alcatel-Lucent's recent purchase of Velocix.

Introducing Niko’s Wave Control Switch ‘Mysterious’

Niko has launched a switch which allows users to turn lights on and off without touching it, something similar to what you find in toilets except this one you can install throughout the your home.  The switch is called ‘Mysterious wave control’ which is activated by waving a hand close by. The home automation gadget has been the recipient of the Reddot Design Award.

Meet the Ericsson IPTV Two Screen Remote, a touch screen solution to control your TV and other connected digital devices in the connected home.  The remote offers a single user interface for controlling both live and on-demand TV, Internet video, the PC and the mobile phone in the home.  Following a successful launch at IBC in Amsterdam last month, where it won 'Best IPTV Technology' at the CSI Product of the Year Awards (see video below).

'Vodafone Internet TV' Coming to Spain

Vodafone Spain announced that they are planning to launch a connected TV solution called 'Vodafone Internet TV' for its Spanish customers.  According to IpTV-news, the service will combine both free-to-air and pay DTT channels (including HD), an intelligent HD PVR, content streaming from the home network via DLNA technology, access to various Internet video services via Widgets, OTT portals and catch-up TV. So far they have selected Wyplay to provide a Hybrid IPTV Box.

Alcatel-Lucent and Etisalat Deploy UAE First Femtocell

Alcatel-lucent and Etisalat have teamed up to deploy the UAE’s (United Arab Emirates) first femtocall project. The project is to enhance the quality of mobile broadband connectivity for people living in remote areas of the UAE, and increase mobile bandwidth for high traffic areas.  According to Estisalat, femtocell has the potential to support the increase growth in data usage and consumption of data services.

Netgear and Intel Launched Wireless TV, "Push2TV" in Middle East

Netgear has collaborated with Intel to launch ‘Push2TV’ in the Middle East. Push2TV is a new adapter that enables Intel Notebook users in the region to display their entire laptop computer screen on their big screen HDTVs. The Push2TV solution also allows users to wirelessly access their media file on a laptop or on another device such as a SAN (Storage Area Network).
 

UCAIug Releases v2 HAN System Requirement Spec

The UCA International Users Group has release version 2 of the Home Area Network (HAN) system requirement specification (SRS), a document designed to provide the use of open standard to foster interoperability for HAN devices and smart grid applications. SRS v2 is the collaboration over over 130 individuals representing over 80 companies and organizations collaborated for 10 months to complete the project. The document has been approved by the OpenSG Technical Committee and is now available for public use.

Control4 Selected By Accenture for Singapore Smart Meter Project

Accenture has selected Control4 to participate in a three-year, $30 million AMI pilot funded by Singapore Power and the Singapore government. The Intelligent Energy System (IES) pilot will launch this year in 4,500 residential, commercial and industrial locations and will continue through 2013. Singapore’s Energy Market Authority (EMA) appointed Accenture to design and implement the project. Control4 will provide IP-based home control systems that enable two-way communication with the Smart Grid.

Atheros Offers HomePlug AV and Wi-Fi Feference Designs

atherosIt’s almost a year since Atheros Communication acquired Intellon Corporation, a supplier of HomePlug and other powerline communication solutions, and today Atheros announced the release of four new reference designs based on Wi-Fi, HomePlug AV Powerline and Ethernet technologies. The reference designs comprises of a router and three adapters that use various combinations of its XSPAN wireless LAN, AMP™ powerline and ETHOS Ethernet technologies.
