Cisco Systems Selected for EnergyAustralia Smart Grid Project

Cisco’s switches and routers designed for smart grid systems have been selected by EnergyAustralia for its smart grid project. The deal for Cisco is said to worth $7.5Million over three years. The new kit is to facilitate the delivery of a range of business critical services as well as improve mobile computing for field engineers and upgrade the network infrastructure for up to 200 substations.

First SGIP Recognized Test and Certification Program Starts

The UCA International Users Group (UCAIug) announced today that in support of the Smart Grid Testing and Certification Committee (SGTCC) it has completed a preliminary assessment of its IEC 61850 based test program, and has agreed to implement the interoperability test program recommendations of the NIST Smart Grid Interoperability Panel (SGIP).  Successful completion of the assessment process is a key milestone in transitioning towards being an SGIP recognized program supporting Smart Grid interoperability.

Android Comes To UK Homes with The Binatone iHomePhone

The home phone has taken on a new face with the released of the new iHomePhone from Binatone. Released on the back of the iPhone, iPad and Windows 7 Phone; the iHomePhone is Android based and offers the functionalities similar to its Android based smartphone counterparts. The iHomePhone will allow users to browse the web, listen to music, chat to friends and even download apps. It is due out this month and prices start at £99.99.

SmartSynch and Verizon Introduced Residential CDMA Smart Grid Solution

Like Sprint and GridNet, SmartSynch has teamed up with Verizon to create a Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) Smart Grid solution for the US residential utility market.  The Smart Grid solution will relieve utility companies of the pressure of network management.  With more than 130 utility customers using SmartSynch’s Smart Grid solution and the country’s largest wireless 3G data supplier, utilities will be able to reach more residential customers.

Watteco Uses TI Chip for Smart Grid Solution

Watteco and Texas Instruments (TI) have teamed up to collaborate on a new line of ultra-low-power and intelligent communications solution for the next generation of connected appliances. Designed for Smart Grid applications, the system combines Watteco's WPC PLC (Power Line Communication) technology with TI's MSP430 microcontroller (MCU) for low-power energy-management applications. HAI, an integrated security and home automation solution manufacture and the developer of the Snap-Link for iPad announced that the HAI Intercom on the OmniTouch 5.7e Touchscreens is now available along with Helios 2N IP Door Station connectivity. The company said the new OmniTouch 5.7e Touchscreens will be shipped with intercom capability and existing homes with OmniTouch 5.7e can be updated to provide Touchscreen-to-Touchscreen communication.
