AzQtel Selects Prodea Connected Home Service for Azerbaijan

Prodea Systems has been selected by Azerbaijan’s WiMAX service provider AzQtel to support its long-term strategy of offering and advance connected home solution. The Prodea platform initial implementation will enhanced AzQtel’s broadband service (known as ‘Sazz’ locally) by offering an App-store and connected life services, which could include video-on-demand, internet applications, home security, personal media and smart home.

Acer to offer cloud computing solution for Connected Homes

Building on its move into the digital home Acer is set to offer a cloud computing-enabled desktop, codenamed Acer Revo RL100. The new desktop will have the Acer clear.fi, a recently released connected home solution. The company said, of the 70 million netbooks, desktops and mobile phones they are planning to ship next year 10 – 20 percent will have Acer Clear.fi integrated.

Broadband Powerline Ethernet Connects Puerto Rico Homes

As part of Puerto Rico’s Smart Grid Initiative, the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (PREPA) has selected PowerNET International in partnership with Amperion to implement a trial broadband solution over high voltage powerlines communications network. The project will allow the island to implement a new communication infrastructure using its existing high-voltage electric power lines and infrastructure.

TiVo and Canal Digital Form Digital TV Partnership

Scandinavian broadband, TV and telephone provider Canal Digital- part of the Telenor Group has formed a strategic partnership with TiVo, the advance television service provider, in an effort to offer Nordic viewers some the most advance television services. Under the Agreement the TiVo services will be available to Telenor’s Canal Digital Direct-to-Home satellite customers in Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland.

NETGEAR and Zixi Developed Full HD Over The Top TV for NeoTV 550

Zixi and Netgear have collaborated to develop the first full HD Over The Top solution.  Using the Zixi Video Operating System (ZVOS) the Netgear NeoTV 550 Ultimate HD Media Player is able to deliver live and VOD (Video on Demand) full HDTV over the internet to the viewer.  This collaboration also marks the first time ZVOS is enabled on an off the shelf and high-performance HD media player.

Lenovo’s LePad Android Tablet Coming

Lenovo has announced that they will be joining the list of android tablet supplier as early as next year, when they release the LePad Android Tablet.  According to the company the LePad will debut in the US early next year possible after the CE Show in Las Vegas. The company did not say how much it The Lenovo LePad Android tablet will cost but did say it will initially run on Google Android mobile OS – version unknown, with the possibility of moving to Google Chrome OS later.  When release the LePad will go head to head with the likes of the Asus Eee Pad, ViewSonic Viewpad and others.

China’s BesTV Selects Dolby Digital Plus for HD IPTV Service

BesTV, China's premier HD IPTV live and video-on-demand (VOD) service provider has joined the list of other television service provider to integrate Dolby Laboratories’ Dolby Digital Plus as part of their feature rich HD TV solutions. According to Dolby, BesTV will roll out its Dolby Digital Plus multichannel sound solution in China’s Guangdong Province with other area in the pipeline.
 

Mitsubishi Releases Software Update For 738 and 838 Series 3D TVs

Owners of Mitsubishi 738 and 838 series 3D-ready TVs or being offered a free 3D TV software upgrade.  Mitsubishi Digital Electronics America (MDEA) said the free upgrade will make it easier for consumers to experience large screen immersive 3D home entertainment and that the upgrade will allow the 738 and 838 series to directly support all mandatory 3D signal formats prescribed in the HDMI 1.4a specification.
